2024 Pruning Immersion Course with Marco Tessari
This level 1 course is a must for any grower wanting to learn how each pruning cut affects not only nutrient and water flow for the vine in the current season but also their vineyard’s resulting long-term health and productivity.
Who Should Attend
All vineyard managers (and their team) who have not previous taken a pruning course with Marco and have vines of producing age or vines with at least a trunk established.
2024 Instruction Focus:
Overview of pruning principles emphasizing the good traditions of pruning around the world, with respect to promoting vine longevity.
Physiology of pruning and practices to prevent dieback and grapevine trunk diseases.
An inside look at the consequences of bad pruning cuts and common mistakes in young and old vines.
Instruction on pruning techniques with examples of proper and improper ways to cut spur and cane-pruned vines including long-term cane renewal structure management, long-term cordon structure management, selecting canes and spurs, and placement of pruning shears with respect to vine physiology.
Instruction on the importance of proper shoot thinning to strengthen the results of pruning practices and improve wine quality.
Evaluation of pruning cuts and examples of spur and cane pruned vines by participants with virtual pruning instruction on student submitted photos.
Review of students’ before and after photos of spur and cane pruned vines with personalized critique and advising, including Q&A for each student.
Course Dates
This course is packaged into 3 half-day lessons via Zoom for a total of 12 hours of training.

The course is presented live via Zoom. Live participation is strongly encouraged, but recordings will be available.
The course is limited to 20 members.
Participants will receive Zoom links and instructions for sending pictures of their vines before each session.
